The seventh season of "The Vampire Diaries" will see a lot of Kat Graham's Bonnie, as she continues to be the voice of reason for Ian Somerhalder's Damon Salvatore.

Thanks to Kai, Bonnie and Nina Dobrev's Elena is linked together in such a way that Elena will not wake up from her sleep as long as Bonnie was alive. And in the next season, fans will see how Bonnie deals with the guilt of Elena sacrificing her life, and Damon getting an opportunity to live the life he always wanted before Elena came into his life.

Season 7 will also see Damon and Bonnie's unlikely friendship blooming.

"I thought it was a really clever way to keep Elena there and keep her presence there and keep the door open in a lot of ways to have her come back. It also creates an interesting dynamic [between Bonnie and Damon] going into Season 7 and the fact that Bonnie is alive and Elena's not. It's on Bonnie to stay alive," Graham said at the just-concluded San Diego Comic-Con.

At the event, the cast of The CW vampire series teased the possibility of Elena's return, and this has sparked speculation that Bonnie's life could be in danger. As per Kai's spell, Bonnie must die for Elena to wake up, and in all likelihood we could see the new villains of the season threatening Bonnie's safety.

And if season 7 is the series finale for "The Vampire Diaries", then it makes sense to reunite Damon with the love of his life, Elena.

However, Bonnie might not remain dead for long, as the show is known for killing off lead characters and then bringing them back to life.

Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" has cast three new villains -- Couple Nora and Mary Louise, and Valerie. While Scarlett Byrne and Teressa Liane will play same-sex couple Nora and Mary Louise, Valerie will be played by Elizabeth Blackmore.

"The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW in October.
