Amity University's law school received criticism and flak from people on social media after a 21-year-old, 3rd year Amity Law student hanged himself in his home in Delhi as he was barred from his semester exams due to shortage of attendance.

Sushant Rohilla had sent an email to the administration of the university begging that he be allowed to sit for the exams. In the email, which his sister Mehek Rohilla, had shared on her Facebook account, he mentioned a foot injury and winning moot courts as well as mentoring a junior team for a moot, that he was good at his work. The email was sent in May. However, the boy was forced to take the decision to end his life on Aug. 10 as the administration had not changed its position.

"What kind of monsters are running this University.. My little one was begging for mercy.. And for what! To be able to sit for exams! Every academic year matters to student. And he put his heart and soul for this college.. He made sure people worked towards the college. Poor thing. He thought that would matter to them," Mehek said on her Facebook account.

Sushant's friend Teerth Waraich took to Twitter to shed some more light into the incident. He tweeted saying, "Our college has a 75% attendance norm, but it is completely arbitrary. They forgave attendance for Miss India contestant, but killed my friend."

The Amity University held a press conference on the matter on Wednesday. However, a student of the university criticised the univeristy's policies saying that they were lies.

The law school is affiliated to Indraprastha University.

The university has now forced the faculty to go on forced leave. B P Sehgal, (Director) and Isheeta Rutabhasini, permanent faculty member and another teacher were sent on "forced leave," NewsD reported. Sehgal and Rutabhasini were reportedly asked to resign. The university has launched probe into the matter.

"He brought accolades to the college. He was loved by all. His act of suicide was provoked by some officials of the Institute over trivial but illegal arbitrary issues. No student should ever be tortured over attendance. No student should ever be compelled to ever contemplate such step..

I will get my son justice," said Sushant's father, Jagdish Kumar on Facebook.

Meanwhile, #JusticeforSushant trended on Facebook and other social media platforms with celebrity comedians Aditi Mittal and Rohan Joshi sharing their harrowing college stories.

Around 200 students of the university protested against the university's policies and condemned the institution's apathy towards Sushant's case. They demanded the resignation of the faculty members.
