An image of the planet Mars recently taken by NASA's Curiosity Rover has caught the attention of UFO enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists, who claim that an alien woman is visible in one of the photos.
The picture of a woman-shaped figure on Mars' surface became a topic of discussion on alien conspiracy forums and social media ever since YouTube user UFOovni2012 uploaded a picture video titled "A Strange Woman Walking On Mars."
The alleged Martian woman could be just a piece of rock or sand that happens to take the shape, but conspiracy theorists think otherwise.
In a post entitled "Alien Woman On Mars Watching Rover From Hill," UFO Sightings Daily has claimed that "it looks like a woman partly cloaked."
"Its hard to tell if this is a living being, or a statue of a being from long ago. However, a statue that small would be eroded and destroyed easily, so it has a higher chance of being a living being," wrote Scott C. Waring of the website.
"Perhaps it's a cloaked ghost Martian woman, perhaps it's a statue left over from a once great society, perhaps it's a piece of dirt," said Mashable, which Fox News backed.
However, Eric Mack of CNet spoke to Guy Webster of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and got some insightful information on such structures seen on the surface of Mars.
He admitted that he handles queries almost every day with people claiming that they had identified signs of life in pictures sent by Curiosity Rover.
"It's really easy to pick out rocks or other things that look like something else in pictures like this," said Webster.
