The Abhishek Chaubey directorial, "Udta Punjab," which sparked a controversy, was released on June 17 and has received positive reviews from all quarters. Critics and Bollywood celebs have praised the performances of Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.

After a lot of struggle, the makers were able to release "Udta Punjab." The film landed in trouble when the censor board imposed around 90 cuts in the film, but later the Mumbai High Court passed the film with an "A" certificate and only one cut.

The film deals with the drug trafficking issue in Punjab. It stars Shahid as rockstar Tommy Singh, Alia as a Bihari migrant, Kareena as a doctor and Diljit as a cop. "Udta Punjab" revolves around these four characters whose lives are linked with a common factor – drugs.

Even after dealing with controversies and hype, the film opened with positive reviews. Not only critics and audience, but also the Bollywood celebs appreciated the director's vision. The film industry also stood by the film's team when the censor board imposed cuts.

The makers of the film had a special screening on June 16 and several Bollywood celebs like Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Shakun Batra, Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Vikas Bahl, Aditi Rao Hydari, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza, Arshad Warsi, Kiran Rao and Preity Zinta. Shahid, Alia, Anurag Kashyap and Diljit also attended the screening, while Kareena gave it a miss.
