After a long brawl with the government, Uber is slowly bringing its bike taxi service to different parts of the country. On Thursday, the ride-sharing service announced the launch of uberMOTO in Ahmadabad, with all due agreement from the government.

The launch of uberMOTO took place in the presence of Shri Vallabhbhai G Kakadiya, Hon'ble Transport Minister, Gujarat, and Shri Vipul Mittra, Principal Secretary, Transport, with great emphasis on affordable transport connectivity in Gujarat. Now, uberMOTO is currently operational in five cities across India, including Jaipur, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad.

"With urban mobility being a key focus area for the Government of India, we want to do our bit by introducing newer ways of ridesharing that will help solve for issues like traffic, congestion and last mile connectivity across India. We are very excited to launch our bike sharing product UberMOTO in Ahmadabad. This will be the fifth city in India to go live with this service. We would like to thank the respective State Governments for showing their support and commitment to embracing technology-enabled solutions for their cities," Prabhjeet Singh, General Manager, Uber India North, said in a statement.

UberMOTO may have its legal obstacles, but it is certainly a great idea to deploy easy and affordable means of transports on the roads. While UberGo and other taxi services offer easy transportation modes, bike taxis have their own perks.

We have listed the top advantages of uberMOTO over regular taxis below:

Saves time

To beat the traffic, most commuters prefer bikes. Instead of owning one of your own, you can now get an instant lift to your desired destination via uberMOTO. According to Uber's data, the average speed to get around Gurugram in a car is 20kmph, but the same distance can be covered at 27kmph using uberMOTO.

Clearly, if you are in hurry and traveling alone, Uber's bike taxis can come to your rescue.

Affordable rides

It is not just quicker to get around the city on a bike, it is also cheaper compared to a car. Same goes for taxis. Rides on uberMOTO cost as low as Rs. 20, making commute easy and affordable.

Alternative transport

Trains, metros, autos, and taxis are easily available, but bike taxis are easy and affordable. You can avoid the rush of a local train or a metro and travel or spend a premium bill for riding a taxi. UberMOTO is just a tap away in the Uber app, similar to UberGo and UberX.
