UPDATE 8:52 pm IST: The US Marine Corps said on Twitter that there was an "active search and rescue for 2 CH-53" helicopters near the coast of Oahu.

Two US Marines helicopters collided mid-air off the coast of Hawaii, as per reports on Friday. There were 12 people on board the two choppers.

The US Coast Guard reportedly spotted debris in the water near Hawaii, according to NBC News. There is no news of any survivor. 

The Coast Guard reportedly received information of a collision between military aircraft before midnight on Thursday. 

The collision took place during a nighttime training mission. 

The cause of the accident is still not clear, though there was said to be showers and winds at the time.
