Refusal by partners to watch the latest romantic film "O Kadhal Kanmani" turned disastrous for two couples in Coimbatore.

The first incident took place in B R Puram near Hopes College, when 29-year-old sales executive J Jaisankar committed suicide after his girlfriend refused to watch the film with him.

"J Jaisankar from B R Puram near Hopes College first got himself drunk and called his girlfriend, working in an apparel store, and threatened to commit suicide if she does not reconsider her decision and go with him to watch the Mani Ratnam film. When the girl dug her heels in, he hanged himself on Sunday. After he committed suicide, the girl went to his place and refused to leave," reported The New Indian Express, quoting police sources.

In the second incident, 31-year-old P Sathyapriya committed suicide when her husband refused to take her for the movie.

She wanted her husband, a sales manager at a private company, to take her out for shopping and later watch the movie. But he said no, citing ill-health. Acting on an impulse, Sathyapriya consumed poison. When she started vomitting, her husband took her to a hospital, where Sathyapriya was declared 'brought dead'.
