Chennai, July 7 (ANI): Political leaders from Tamil Nadu opposed the recently-filed affidavit by the central government in Madras High Court depriving the Tamil fishermen the right to fish around the Katchatheevu Island, a disputed territory between India and Sri Lanka. Reportedly, the affidavit said the international border issue between India and Sri Lanka was a settled issue, while the ruling government of Tamil Nadu, led by Jayalalithaa demanded retrieval of Katchatheevu Island, reflecting the concerns of Tamil Nadu in the region. Congress leader S Vijayadharani, said this was a shocking step by the central government which curbed the rights of Tamil fishermen. Even Tamil Nadu_s opposition party, DMK said the decision by the Modi-led government was a wrong step.
