New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs on Friday moved on from black umbrellas and shawls to demonstrating outside the parliament with earthen pots to protest outside against government's decision to amend the MGNREGA. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has brought work to millions of impoverished villagers. The party demanded that instead of amending the Act, the Centre should instead raise the wages paid under the popular scheme that guarantees a minimum 100 days of employment in a year to those living below poverty line in rural areas. Meanwhile, in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 28 prominent economists said they were alarmed to hear of moves to change the NREGA, which provides jobs for 50 million households.
