At least 11 Turkish policemen were killed and four critically injured after a vehicle carrying them was blown up by suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists in Igdir on Tuesday morning.

The attack took place early in the morning in the eastern Anatolia region of Turkey. The policemen in the van were border guards deployed at the Dilucu Border Gate.

The Turkish media blamed the PKK for the attack. It is reported that the PKK members paved the road with explosives and blew up the vehicle carrying policemen while it was passing through.

According to Turkish news source SonDakika, the police have launched an operation in the area following the attack.

The image of mangled vehicle was widely shared among the social media users in Turkey.

The attack comes just two days after at least 16 Turkish troops were killed in an ambush on a convoy of armoured vehicles in the southeastern province of Hakkari, Al Jazeera reported.
