Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya, which had been ruling the Television Rating Points (TRPs) for the past several weeks, has witnessed a drop in its ratings in week 36 (3 September to 9 September) of 2016. According to data released by television audience measurement agency, the Broadcast Audience Research Council India, Brahmarakshas-Jaag Utha Shaitan has become the number one TV show in urban areas.

The supernatural show secured 6.92 million viewership while Saath Nibhaana Saathiya grabbed the second spot with 6.90 million. Kumkum Bhagya slipped down to the third spot with 6.8 million views. However, Abhi-Pragya's show continues to be the top show among both urban and rural areas, with a viewership of 11.8 million.

The fourth spot in the urban areas was taken by Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, with 6.6 million views. The Kapil Sharma Show took the fifth position with viewership of 6.2 million. Kapil Sharma's show, however, continues to hold the top spot in the non-fiction category.

While Yeh Hai Mohabbatein failed to find itself a slot in the top five shows in urban areas, it managed to grab the fifth position in the combined list of shows in urban and rural areas. The constant drop in its ratings suggest that the daily soap has lost its charm since it started focusing more on the younger actors than the lead pair of Raman (Karan Patel) and Ishita (Divyanka Tripathi.)

As for the ranking of television channels, Star Plus was once again at the top in urban areas. It was followed by Colors TV and Zee TV. Colors TV, which was the number one channel for the past several weeks, suffered a blow perhaps due to the low ratings of its shows, including Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9 and 24. The other top channels are Life OK, Sony SAB, Sony Entertainment Television, &TV, Zee Anmol, STAR Utsav and Sony Pal.
