The transfer deadline day is here and Manchester United are yet to make any last minute announcements. The Independent reported that the Red Devils were plotting a late move for Louis Van Gaal's favourite Dutch forward Arjen Robben.

Less than five hours to go for the summer transfer window to close, this deal looks far from being complete.

However, United have been monitoring Robben for quite some time now. Journalists in Bavaria felt that because of Douglas Costas arrival at Bayern Munich this summer, Robben is likely to move on.

Robben has been at the top of Louis Van Gaal's transfer wish list and the two also shares a good relation. Robben and Manchester United have been linked in almost all the transfer windows in the past 10 years, even during Sir Alex Ferguson's time at the Old Trafford. But the Dutch international has chosen to stay at Bayern Munich.

Reports also suggested that Robben might just follow Bastian Schweinsteiger, who recently joined the Red Devils ahead of the new season of the English Premier League.

If United would want the services of Robben, then they will have to shell out £73 million and that will be a British record fee.

Post the FIFA World Cup 2014, Louis Van Gaal had said in an interview that Robben is one of his all-time favourite and he will always be welcomed to join United. Robben had also stated that Van Gaal played an important role in his career.

The German transfer window is well and truly shut. In case they sell Robben tonight, who will replace him? Douglas Costa? Well that seems to be a viable option! But still the deal seems unlikely to happen.
