It looks like finally there is some clarity on the launch of the Vios sedan in India. If the emerging reports are anything to go by, Toyota's Vios sedan may hit the Indian roads by early 2018.

Toyota Vios has been rumoured for India launch quite sometime now and the recent sightings of the model on the Indian roads added credence to it. Now a report of GaadiWaadi hints that Toyota is serious about launching the Vios in the country and may bring it officially to India in January 2018. While Toyota is yet to confirm the development officially, official records have shown that the company has imported a few units of the Vios to India from Thailand for research and development purpose.

If the Vios comes to India, the sedan would enter the territory of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento. It is also being said that Toyota has plans to bring Yaris subcompact car to India. The arrival of the Yaris is also expected to happen by 2018.

Coming back to the Vios, In terms of dimensions, the Vios measures 4,410mm in length, 1,700mm in width and 1,475mm in height, and has a large wheelbase of 2,550mm. Under the hood, the Vios in the international market is powered by 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.4-litre diesel motor. As for features, the Vios is likely to come equipped with safety features such as anti-lock brake system (ABS) and dual front airbags as standard. Other expected features include touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, leather upholstery and start-stop button.

If launched in India, the Vios would be imported from Thailand as completely knocked-down units (CKD) and will be assembled at Toyota India's manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.
