Windows has been catching up with full throttle with the Android app market, Google Play Store, by introducing popular yet much needed apps in its OS ecosystem.

Some of the top free applications for the Windows Phone users include Instagram, the recently launched app for Windows Phones, followed by Xbox Video, Facebook, Kik Messenger and Xbox Music.

The top 2 ranks in the paid list are dominated by Facebook apps. Both these apps are known to be third party apps, which is followed by Cal, MoliPlayer Pro and Kirik Settings in top 5.

Some changes were also seen in the top-paid category. The top two spots were taken by two third-party Facebook apps, which are priced at $0.99 each. It has been speculated that these apps might be offering better functionality over the existing official Facebook app which is free-to-download.

In the list, users will also find Cal, the calendar app which was introduced recently and is priced at $1.99. The fourth and fifth spot were taken by MoliPlayer Pro and Kirik Settings app which are priced at $2.99 and $1.99 respectively.

While GoToMeeting app keeps track of the user's schedule meetings, view slide presentations, design mocks and more, the Zedge app offers a wide range of wallpapers and different notification ringtones to users.
