At least three people were killed in Tokyo when a five-seater plane crashed in a residential area in Fujimicho, Chofu on Sunday morning.

The aircraft, after crashing at around 11 am (local time), burst into flames and destroyed at least two houses and a few cars. The two occupants of the plane were among the dead. A woman, who could not escape from one of the destroyed houses, was burnt to death, The Japan News reported.

Reports indicated that two residents got trapped in the house. However, fire-fighters were able to rescue at least one of them.

NKH reported that the small plane took off from the Chofu Airport around 10.58 am (local time) and crashed 1.8 km to the south within two minutes after the take-off. The reason behind the crash was not clear.

Local reports indicate that the site of the crash was close to a school.
