"Theri" has earned $251,123 from the Wednesday premiere shows. "#THERI has set a premiere record in North America by collecting #251,123 and positioned at 8th place among others," Cine Galaxy ‏tweeted. Vijay has a good fan following in the U.S. and to cash in on his popularity, Cine Galaxy, which has acquired the U.S. theatrical rights of the film, released the film in a grand way.

The film is now the third highest grosser in the U.S. from the premiere shows after Rajinikanth's films like "Lingaa" ($404,566) and "Endhiran" ($260,000). Vijay's latest film has beaten the records of Vikram's magnum opus "I" ($168,795), Ajith Kumar's "Yennai Arindhaal" ($110,000) and "Vedalam" ($92,392).

The industry expected "Theri" to perform well as the advance booking of tickets were met with stupendous response from the audience.

"Theri," which has been released in 31 countries in 562 screens, had premiere shows in many foreign countries and the first show was held in Singapore. Among many overseas centres, the Tamil film has also done good business in France and Malaysia. The flick has reportedly done well in centres like Sri Lanka, Germany, Australia and U.A.E.

Atlee Kumar's "Theri" is an action-packed emotional movie, which has Samantha and Amy Jackson in the female leads. Mahendran plays the baddie in the film, which has Prabhu, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Baby Nainika, Santhanam, Rajendran, Kaali Venkat and others in the cast.

The film has received fairly positive reviews. In India, the movie has opened well in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Bengaluru. However, the movie, which has been dubbed in Telugu as "Policeodu," will release Friday, April 15, in Andhra Pradesh.
