The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to retain control over Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with the exit polls predicting that it will get more than 200 of the 272 seats. BJP had also registered impressive victory in the previous elections in 2012.

In 2012, the MCD was split into three smaller municipal corporations — North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Voter turnout

While the voter turnout in the 2012 MCD polls was 58 percent, this year it was quite low at 53.58 percent. Last time, a total of 2,423 candidates had contested from 272 wards. And, the saffron party had won 138 out of the total 272 seats.

In the South Delhi Corporation, BJP won 44 of the 104 wards, while Congress bagged 30 and BSP won five. Smaller parties and independent candidates won as many as 26 seats.

In North Delhi Corporation, known as BJP's citadel, they won 59 of the 104 wards. Congress won just 29, while BSP won just seven seats, and others won just nine seats.

In East Delhi Corporation, out of the 64 wards, BJP won 35 seats, while Congress was able to bag only 19 seats. Three seats went to BSP and others won seven.

BJP has already bagged 72 seats in North Delhi Municipal Corporation, 64 in South Delhi Municipal Corporation and 43 in East Delhi Municipal Corporation. AAP has won 40 seats so far followed by Congress with 36.
