Most developers encounter the challenge of choosing between a class and character progression in any role-playing game (RPG). Character progression is what is pleasing for a player.

Developers of games such as The Elder Scrolls Online are always compounded by this problem while making designs for a massively multiplayer online (MMO) world. Bethesda has offered an explanation on the decisions the company had to take for the game designs that impact the character that players will choose.

Bethesda on an official blog post said that while developing the designs of Elder Scrolls, it confronted some "unique challenges". It said there is a difference between the online version and the console version of the game. In the console version, the player can do anything with the character but in the online mode there is a need to "stand out from the crowd." The company managed to preserve the feel of Elder Scrolls that is very distinct but still has provided players with opportunity to develop an identity.

When the game begins players will have to choose a character from a particular class. The progression of this character is dependent on making the character work on the skill lines, thus spending some skill points. Certain classes will have skill lines that will be exclusive to them, Polygon reported.

"Your class is an important decision to make, but it doesn't chain you to any one play-style. Every class has three of its own skill lines, each with different skills that are thematically related to the class. Combine those three with the many, many other lines available to every character, and each member of a particular class can be wildly different from the next," the company explained.

Players might have to look back if the skill lines that they had gone after does not produce expected results. This mistake can be corrected. If players can progress to advanced stages (read morphing) then they will be be able to earn some extra options.

The post said that some of the best ideas come from late-night coffee sessions.

"This is where ability morphing came from, and it stuck as another choice you'll get to make. Once you've used a particular ability enough, you'll be asked to morph it, to choose between two paths, each of which add something new to that ability," said Polygon.

Elders Scrolls Online is slated to be launched in early 2014 for PC, Mac, PlayStaion 4 and Xbox One.

New Trailer for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

Morrowind, the third installment in The Elder Scrolls game series, is still popular among players and is also considered to be the best among the titles. A team of modders have recreated it in Skyrim calling it the The Elder Scrolls 5: Skywind. It is a non-commercial, fan-made modification for Skyrim.

If players have to play Skywind, they will need both Morrowind and Skyrim, DSO Gaming reported.
