Veteran Malayalam actor TG Ravi is making a comeback to villain roles with Ranjith Sankar's "Varsham", which has superstar Mammootty in the lead role.

Ravi will play the character of Manavalan Peter, a business tycoon, while Mammootty plays the lead role Venu, a common man who becomes a legend in his own right.

"Varsham" discusses the five stages of Venu's life, and the story revolves around the rift between him and Peter.

Ravi, who played several villain characters during the 70s and 80s in Malayalam, had quit acting at the peak of his career to concentrate on business ventures. But he made a comeback after a break, with "Amrutham" (2004), directed by Siby Malayil.

Ravi later went on do several character roles in films such as "Pranchiyettan and the Saint" (2010), "22 Female Kottayam" (2012), "Celluloid" (2013) and "Red Wine" (2013). His last film was Ranjith Sankar's "Punyalan Agarbhathis" (2013).

"Punyalan Agarbhathis", a satirical comedy, won him both critical acclaim and audiences applause. The film starred Jayasurya, Nyla Usha, Aju Varghese, Rachana Narayanankutty, Innocent and Sreejith Ravi. The story revolved around a young entrepreneur named Joy Thakkolkaran and his efforts to manufacture incense using elephant dung. The film was a commercial success.

Mammootty is currently shooting for "Rajadhiraja", directed by newcomer Ajay Vasudev. The script of the film is written by successful duo Uday Krishna and Siby K Thomas, who did films like "CID Moosa" (2003), "Twenty Twenty" (2008), "Pokkiri Raja" (2010) and "Maya Mohini" (2012). Mammootty is expected to wrap up the shoot of "Rajadhiraja" soon and join Ranjith's "Varsham".

"Varsham", a family drama, is understood to have two heroines. The film's shoot is expected to start by 20 July, with the release planned for 20 October. The film will be produced by Ranjith Sankar's 'Dreams N Beyond' and Mammootty's 'Play House' together. The cinematography is done by Sujith Vasudev and the music by Bijipal.
