Tata Motors' recently launched Zest is likely to get a longer waiting period due to the increasing demand for the vehicle in the domestic market.
While Tata is expected to disclose the booking numbers of Zest in coming days, a new report of Autocar India claims that Zest has already found a place in the wish list of auto enthusiasts in the country. Apparently, majority of enquiries have been for the diesel AMT Zest and the increasing demand could give an extended waiting period for the same.
At present, Zest AMT diesel is enjoying a waiting period of upto four months and going by the report, this could still go up as Tata's AMT box purveyor Magneti Marelli is unable to meet the increasing demand. Maruti Celerio, India's first car with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) also gets the AMT box from Magneti Marelli. This could exacerbate the supply problem further as the company's first priority would be to meet the demand of Maruti.
Tata Zest is available in a total of nine variants- 4 petrol and 5 diesel in the country and reportedly the other non-AMT variants of Zest are also getting good response from customers. However the waiting period of these Zest models will not be affected much as the dealers have the models in stock.
Zest, a car based on Tata Motors' "DesigNext, DriveNext, ConnectNext" philosophy was launched in the country on 12 August. The car is offered in both diesel and petrol engine options. While the petrol model of Zest is powered by turbocharged 1.2-liter Revotron engine, which is tuned to produce a 90 PS (88.73 bhp) of power and 140 Nm of torque, the diesel Zest gets power from 1.3-litre Multijet motor, that is capable of churning out 88.8 Bhp of power and 200Nm torque. Only the Zest XMA diesel model comes coupled to Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) and other diesel variants get 5-speed manual transmission.
