It looks like work on the much-awaited automated manual transmission (AMT) variant of Tata Tiago is progressing rapidly and confirming this is a new set of spy shots of the model that has hit the web.

The motor buffs at IndianAutosBlog have shared a fresh batch of images of what is believed to be the Tiago AMT. While the Tiago will remain untouched in terms of style and design in the AMT avatar, the change is likely to come in the form of AMT shifter. The Tiago AMT is expected to get five-speed AMT box. Tata currently has two AMT models in its line-up -- GenX Nano and Zest -- and is expected to offer the AMT box in Tiago petrol models.

While the petrol mill of the Tiago churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the 1.05- diesel engine produces 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Tiago claims to deliver a mileage of 23.84 kmpl for petrol and 27.28 kmpl for diesel.

Tata is expected to launch the Tiago AMT in India by mid-2017. The company is preparing a slew of models for the next year and the New Year innings will start with Hexa SUV on January 18.

Coming back to the Tiago AMT, Tata is expected to price it slightly higher than the current model. The Tiago AMT will face fierce completion from Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT and Renault Kwid AMT. However, the upcoming variant of the Tiago is expected to emulate the success of its regular model. Tata has never looked back since the launch of the Tiago in India in April. The hatchback has been earning overwhelming response from the Indian market and has helped the company overtake Mahindra & Mahindra as the third largest passenger vehicle seller in India in November.
