Still smarting from the flop show of its models Zest and Bolt in the domestic market, Tata Motors seems to be in a desperate bid to regain lost ground. The automaker has lined up the launch of Nexon, its first sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. The model will be up for sale during the festive season this year.
Zest and Bolt failed to give Tata Motors the much-needed push in the passenger car sales. But to its credit, the company did not throw in the towel, retreating to the drawing table before coming up with a slew of models like the Tiago, Hexa and Tigor.
The Tiago hatchback has stood out from the other offerings in its segment with packaging of style and features to breach the 50,000 unit sales mark within a year of its launch. The figure may not be colossal but in a market with plenty of choices, it remains a decent return, and a significant one for Tata Motors. After Tiago, Tata launched the Hexa, which was soon followed by Tigor.
Compact SUV Tata Nexon: What can we expect?
Tata Nexon was part of the Tata Motor's arena at the Auto Expo in 2016. The company has made several changes to the compact SUV from its concept model. It has already been through intense testing in different terrains. Earlier in the month of March, the model was part of the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.
Once launched, Tata Nexon will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki VitaraBrezza, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 in the country and could be priced in the range of Rs. 6.5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.
Features:
Nexon is a product based on the company's new IMPACT design language. The previous models to embody this philosophy were Tiago, Hexa and Tigor. The Nexon wears chrome 'Humanity Line' on the upper grille and features projector headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs). It sports a rear spoiler and LED tail lamps, a contrast tone rising beltline finisher, floating roof and plastic cladding. The compact SUV will run on 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.
Spacious cabin:
The Nexon is likely to get plush cabin with features such as integrated dashboard design and ergonomically placed bottle and cup holders, multiple utility spaces, handbag hangers, laptop and iPad trays to ensure hassle-free city drives and long journeys.
Extras:
Other features will be automatic climate control with rear AC vents, touchscreen infotainment system with features such as voice command recognition and more. The safety in the Nexon is expected to be handled by front dual airbags, dual path suspension, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control, ISOFIX at the rear outboard seats and a rear-view camera.
