The 87-year-old religious teacher had reportedly been undergoing hemodialysis for 10 days at Himalayan Institute Hospital situated at Jolly Grant near Dehra Dun.

However, his condition deteriorated on Wednesday morning, following which he was shifted back to Dayanand Saraswati ashram in Sheeshamjhadi area of Rishikesh.

Swami Dayanand's last rites will take place on Friday, 25 September, reports added.

On 11 September, PM Modi had come to Rishikesh to meet his ailing guru. He will be unable to attend the funeral ceremony of the spiritual guru as he is on a trip to Ireland and the United States.
