For the 7th time in a row, Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone have emerged as toppers of the Ormax Media Star India Loves (SIL) survey. This may come across as surprising for some, but a quick scan of their box office performances will tell you why they are worthy of being the country's most-loved stars.
A quick analysis of their careers (last few years)
For Salman, 2014 started on a dry note with "Jai Ho" not working at the box office, but he made good the loss with "Kick," which went on to become the second film to enter the Rs 200 crore club after "PK." He followed it up with a string of successful films like "Bajrangi Bhaijaan," "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" and "Sultan."
Meanwhile, Deepika's winning streak began with "Cocktail," the film that gave her career a much-needed push. She continued to win critics and fans alike with her solid performances in "Chennai Express," "Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela," "Piku" and "Bajirao Mastani."
What are they doing next?
Salman is in Ladakh shooting for Kabir Khan's "Tubelight." It is the superstar's third film with the director after "Ek Tha Tiger" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan." In this social-drama, the superstar apparently plays a man-child, who is a slow-learner and has a tough time dealing with situations.
Meanwhile, Deepika will be next seen in D. J. Caruso's "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" alongside Hollywood star Vin Diesel. She has also signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati," in which she will essay the titular role. Ranveer Singh has been roped for the part of Mughal ruler Alauddin Khilji; unfortunately he will be sharing screen space with Deepika in the period-film.
