Several rumours have stated that "Star Wars Rebels" Season 3 will see the return of Darth Maul; the prominent Sith who first debuted in "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace."

In the movie, Darth Maul was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, it seems that the Sith lord will be making a comeback in Season 3, as suggested by recent reports.

According to Christian Times, in the third season, it will be revealed that Darth Maul didn't die after his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi and somehow survived the fall. He will return to face off his successor, Darth Vader, who is also set to appear in the next instalment of the series.

Though both the iconic Star Wars characters will be in Season 2, they won't be the focus of the series and neither will be their fight against each other.

The director of "Star Wars Rebels," Dave Filoni, told IGN: "That's another bit of wonderful story, which is: What has Maul been up to? How did Maul get on this desolate planet?"

"And we obviously don't answer those questions at this time, but it is stuff we've considered when we wrote these stories. It never came to be that he would face off with Vader, at least not yet."

It seems from Filoni's statement that Season 3 won't emphasise on Vader vs. Maul and it might disappoint the fans who are looking forward to watch these two legendary characters clash with each other.

In other news, character from franchise's expanded universe "Star Wars Universe" might also appear in the upcoming season. The rumours surfaced after Filoni posted a tweet, announcing his participation in Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016, which is scheduled for next month.
