Sri Lanka were right on top after Day 1 of the second Test match against Pakistan. One would have thought that the hosts would take a decent lead on the second day of the game, but it was Yasir Shah who turned things quickly in the final session of Day 2.

Sri Lanka came into Day 2 with Kumar Sangakkara and Kaushal Silva at the crease. But they lost the wicket of Sangakkara earlier in the day. He was followed by Lahiru Thirimanne soon as he gifted his wicket to Shah.

Skipper Angelo Mathews came to bat after that and steadied the Lankan innings alongside Silva. These two batsmen added 72 runs in tandem. Silva, who played a gritty knock of 80 runs, missed out on yet another hundred and got run-out at a crucial point in the game. Meanwhile, Mathews stood steady on one side of the wicket.

Dinesh Chandimal and Kithuruwan Vithanage were both cleaned up Yasir Shah in a short span of time and Sri Lanka were suddenly 202 for six. Mathews was responsible for yet another partnership and this time it was with Dhammika Prasad. Both of them added 73 runs until the former threw his wicket away.

Sri Lanka ended the day on 303 for nine wickets They now lead by 166 runs with Rangana Herath and Duhsmantha Chameera at the crease. Pakistan would look to clean up the tail-enders quickly and they would want to bat at least for the next two days of the game in order to achieve a good lead over the Lankans. But the way the visitors batted in the first innings, batting throughout two days at the P Sara Oval seems to be a far-fetched idea.

Brief Scores:

Pakistan 138 (Mohammad Hafeez 42, Azhar Ali 26; Dhammika Prasad 3 for 43, Tharindu Kaushal 5 for 42).

Sri Lanka 304 for 9 (Kaushal Silva 80, Kumar Sangakkara 34, Angelo Mathews 77; Yasir Shah 5 for 95).
