Neeraj Pandey's new film "Special 26" is dominating the collection centres in its first week of release. The heist drama film has received positive response from audience and critics alike.

The Akshay Kumar starrer has grossed ₹40.6 crore in six days from theatres across India.

"#Special26 Mon 5 cr, Tue 4.7 cr, Wed 3.9 cr. Holding very well on weekdays," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The film released 1,750 screens raked in ₹27 crore over the weekend.

The film performed well in Punjab, especially the eastern part of the state where the collections are much higher than Akshay's last two releases "OMG! Oh My God" and "Khiladi 786". The film collected ₹3.27 crore in six days.

The six day collection is Friday - ₹56,00,000, Saturday - ₹77,00,000, Sunday - ₹95,00,000, Monday - ₹37,00,000, Tuesday - ₹33,00,000 and Wednesday - ₹29,00,000.

But in Rajasthan the movie has not done well and collected ₹1.76 crore in six days.

The film based on real-life story features an ensemble cast. While Akshay and Kajal Agrawal are featured in the lead roles, Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Bajpai, Anupam Kher and Divya Dutta are the supporting cast memebers.

After the success of the film, there are reports suggesting that the movie will be remade in Tamil. Neeraj Pandey has received an offer from producers in the South for the remake rights.

"I was approached on Friday evening itself for the South remake rights of Special 26," Pandey said during an event, according to Bollywood Life. But the director refused to reveal further details about the offer saying "Talks are on".
