The 12th South Asian Games are expected to get under way with a gust of euphoria on Saturday in Guwahati, Assam. As many as 2,672 athletes from eight countries will take part in the event comprising 23 sports, including Men's and Women's Football, Boxing, Archery, Tennis, and even Kho-Kho.

The quadrennial event, which was originally scheduled to take place in New Delhi in 2014, will be held in two North-East Indian cities — Guwahati and Shillong — over 11 days this year.

The opening ceremony in the Guwahati leg is scheduled to take place on 5 February, while the opening ceremony in the Shillong leg is scheduled to take place on 6 February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also set to be present for the inaugural ceremony.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been kind enough and he has confirmed that he will inaugurate the Games at the opening ceremony on February 5," Sports Secretary Rajiv Yadav was quoted by PTI as saying.

Participants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and hosts India, will grace the event. Here is the entire schedule of events from various sporting disciplines.
