Early in the month, Sony announced to host an event on 26 June in New Delhi. The company refrained to detail the significance of the press briefing, but going by the Sony's press invitation message – Block Your Date – on 26 June, many believe the Japanese firm is likely to launch the flagship device, Xperia Z3+, in the subcontinent.

Sony has already announced the release details of the marquee phone in key regions of Asia and Europe, so in all likelihood, Xperia Z3+ will finally be launched in the subcontinent on Friday.

To provide better perspective on the upcoming Sony flagship smartphone, we have listed key attributes, which users can use to make an informed decision whether to buy Xperia Z3+ or not.

Display:

Sony Xperia Z3+ sports a 5.2-inch full HD (1,920x1,080p) LCD screen with Birds LUMINOS display technology. Its pixel density is more than 440ppi (pixels per inch).

Though it seems to be a sub-par display feature compared to that of its rivals LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 (& S6 Edge), we would like to point out that many research studies have reportedly stated that the human eye cannot find difference in pixel density beyond HD (720x1280p), so we can rest assured that anything beyond HD resolution is just a gimmick used by companies to sell their devices.

Highest Water-resistant smartphone certification:

Sony Xperia Z3+ comes with the IP (Ingress Protection) rating – IP65/68. This is a standard that measures a device's resistance level to dust (IP65) and water (IP68 – both for splashes and submersion).

This means users can take the phone for a dip in the swimming pool (or any other fresh water-body) up to five feet (1.5 metre) under water for close to 30 minutes, provided that the phone's ports are covered by the flaps that come with the package.

Top-Notch Camera:

Sony is undoubtedly a pioneer in the smartphone industry to bring top-notch cameras not just on its Xperia phones, but also on popular MNC brands like Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi.

The new Xperia Z3+ too houses the company's state-of-art proprietary 20.7mp Sony Exmor RS camera with auto-focus, back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, Exmor RS sensor for mobile, pulsed LED flash, 4K resolution video recording and on the front, it houses 5.1mp camera with back-illuminated CMOS sensor and Exmor R sensor for mobile.

Battery:

Sony Xperia Z3+ ships with 2,930mAh, it is 170mAh less than what we see in its predecessor. But Sony promises that Z3+ can deliver up to 36 hours of talk-time in a single charge. It can also run for close to 570 hours under standby mode.

Users can listen up to 91 hours music and also enjoy video playback on the phone for close to 580 minutes.

Honourable mention:

Users can get one day usage with just 45 minutes of charging when using a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 certified charger, such as the UCH10 (Single SIM variant only)

64-bit Class SoC (System on Chip):

Sony Xperia comes shipped with advanced 64-bit class Snapdragon 810 series Octa-core CPU, manufactured by industry leader Qualcomm.

It is aptly backed by a sumptuous 3GB RAM and a 32GB inbuilt memory.

One advantage of having 64-bit chipset is that the phone's performance and RAM management will more be optimised and efficiently used among the apps. Users are less likely to face any lag during multi-tasking. And with the help of a 3GB RAM, Xperia Z3+ will be buttery smooth to use.

There is no denying that Xperia Z3+ (aka Z4) does boast top-notch smartphone, but it's a moderate upgrade over its predecessor. If Sony choose aggressive price tag for the new phone, the company can give stiff challenge to rivals like LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S6 (& S6 Edge), Apple iPhone 6 and HTC One M9+ in India.
