Mobile arm of the consumer electronics major Sony is reportedly planning to launch the mid-range waterproof smartphone Xperia M4 Aqua in India soon.

Mumbai-based smartphone vendor Mahesh Telecom (via Twitter) confirmed that Xperia M4 Aqua will hit Indian stores in a few days.

Coincidently, Sony is reported to have begun sending out invites to select media houses for an event on 26 May in New Delhi. The Sony India invitation (courtesy, India Today) reads, "Give your phone a splash this summer," hinting the company will launch the Xperia M4 Aqua, whose USP is a water-proof body. In all probability, Sony will reveal the release date and price details of Xperia M4 Aqua on coming Tuesday.

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua was originally unveiled back in March at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2015, Barcelona. It boasts Ingress Protection (IP) ratings of IP65 and IP68, wherein users can take the phone for a dip in any fresh water-body for up to five feet (1.5 metre) under water for close to 30 minutes.

Under the hood, Xperia M4 Aqua comes packed with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB/16GB inbuilt memory and a high-capacity 2,400mAh battery.

In related development, Sony is hosting two global launch events at Taiwan and Hong Kong on 27 and 28 May respectively. Rumour has it that the company is likely to announce the international variant of the flagship smartphone Xperia Z4, which was launched exclusively in the home market, Japan, last month.

Xperia Z4 sports 5.2-inch full HD display, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS, Snapdragon 810 series Octa-core CPU, 3GB RAM and 2,930mAh battery.

It also boasts of top-of-the-line proprietary 20.7mp Sony Exmor RS camera with auto-focus, back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, Exmor RS sensor for mobile, pulsed LED flash, 4K resolution video recording and on the front, it houses 5.1mp camera with back-illuminated CMOS sensor and Exmor R sensor for mobile.
