Lovers of the thump have another reason to be happy as Sony has launched a new speaker to add to its Extra Bass line. The new speaker, the SRS-XB3, is splash-proof and can be paired with another SRS-XB3 speaker to offer stereo sound. It also allows for hands-free calling.

At the speaker's heart is a 48mm full-range driver that is tuned for bass. Pressing the Extra Bass button takes things up a notch by enhancing the lower frequencies and making the bass punchier. The button also apparently turns the music up, making it louder.

The speaker is reported to have an IPX5 certification, making it resistant to water. Sony says that the speaker can be used in the kitchen, by the pool side or in the shower without worry. The Bluetooth speaker can be paired with smartphones and tablets with just one touch, through NFC.

Inside the speaker is an 8,800 mAh battery that Sony claims will keep the speaker pumping the tunes for up to 24 hours. In addition, the in-built battery can also be used to charge other devices via the USB cable that comes bundled with most devices.

Coming to the more technical side of things, Sony claims that its DSP (digital signal processor), which plays the digital audio files, offers rich acoustic sound, and its LDAC audio coding technology ensures that Hi-Res class audio files are played over a Bluetooth link.

The speaker is priced at Rs. 12,999, but, according to Sony, it can be picked up at a best buy price of Rs. 9,990.
