Sufi Saint Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani uniting one and all

Srinagar, Oct 21 (ANI): The socio-cultural ethos of Kashmir or Kashmiriyat is steeped in a tradition of religious tolerance, social harmony and brotherhood. It was influenced by the advent of Sufism in Kashmir in early 14th century. Sufi saints were both popular and influential because they identified themselves with established traditions and never opposed the blending of different religious customs, practices and beliefs. As a result, they attracted many followers. Even today, several Sufi shrines dot the state, drawing people from different religions in large numbers. The shrine of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani in Srinagar attracts people from different communities. Legend has it that the saint was a mystic who devoted his entire life for the betterment of mankind and preached communal harmony. His message has been internalised and is visible in the form of devotees from different faiths that come here from near and far throughout the year to pay homage to the saint. SC refuses to stop media from reporting on cases against Asaram

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): In a major setback for self-styled godman Asaram, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to restrain media from reporting cases of sexual assault filed against him and his absconding son Narayan Sai. However, the apex court cautioned the media to responsibly report criminal cases involving Asaram and his son. The apex court also directed the media to avoid sensationalizing and present facts related to the cases involving the godman and his family members. The apex court passed the order in response to a plea moved by the godman seeking a Supreme Court ban on media reporting cases against him and his son. Oct 21, 2013

Coalgate: Gurudas Dasgupta takes on PMO, says Govt in grip of corporates

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta on Monday said that crime and criminality will run in the country and corruption will continue if investigating agencies have no independence. Dasgupta, who was responding to media reports of the CBI mulling the option of closing the Coalgate case against Kumar Mangalam Birla, said that the closure of case against Birla will set a dangerous precedent. Dasgupta was also critical of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) strong defence of the allocation of the Talabira II coal block to Hindalco. The CPI (M) leaders also criticized the UPA Ministers for raising their concerns following the case against Birla in the coal scam case, and said the government is now in the grip of the corporates. Pakistan denies access to foreign aid agencies in quake-affected Balochistan

Quetta, Oct 21: A 7.7 magnitude quake struck Balochistan province on September 24 followed by a similar magnitude earthquake four days later. Official figures say 376 people died and 200,000 had their lives disrupted. But, the locals claim that over 1,000 people have died.
