Kin of dead Navy official demands martyrs status for their son

Kanpur, June 03 (ANI): Family members of dead Navy official Lt Commander Alok Sahu who was killed during the submarine INS Sindhurakshak fire when two blasts rocked the vessel and sank in Mumbai on August 14, 2013, demanded martyr status for their son. The family also expressed their grievances towards Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for completely neglecting them while paying visits to the other Navy officials who were killed along with Sahu during the submarine fire. The Navy official's father, PL Sahu said that the government should not discriminate between those who sacrificed their lives for country. Sahu's mother, Raj Kishori also urged the government to construct a memorial in the name of her dead son. Eighteen sailors went missing after weapons stored in the forward section of the Russian-built INS Sindhurakshak exploded in the middle of the night, causing a fire as it lay berthed in Mumbai. New Delhi, June 03 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock at the sudden death of senior BJP leader and Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde. Munde died in a road accident in Delhi on Tuesday morning when he was on his way to Indira Gandhi International airport. Modi sent out a couple of tweets expressing grief over his cabinet member's death, "Extremely saddened and shocked by the demise of my friend and colleague Gopinath Mundeji. His demise is a major loss for the nation and the government. Mundeji was a true mass leader. Hailing from backward sections of society, he rose to great heights and tirelessly served people." Indian aid worker abducted in Afghanistan

New Delhi, June 03 (ANI): External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that Militants abducted an Indian aid worker in Herat city of Afghanistan. Akbaruddin said that the Indian national who was working with a non governmental organization (NGO) in the education sector and the Consulate in Herat is in constant touch with the Afghanistan government. India, France hold joint air exercise in Rajasthan

Jodhpur, June 03 (ANI): India, France held joint air exercises in Rajasthan to strengthen ties and understand operational methods. Both the nations commenced the ten-day air exercise, Garuda V, at Jodhpur's air base. The exercise aims to expose Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots to French fighter and combat tactics and vice-versa. During this fortnight long exercise, both the Air Forces would engage in operations based on their Operational Philosophy and methodology of operations practicing various challenging air situation scenarios. India's defense spokesperson, Colonel SD Goswami, said this exercise would help in strengthening combat relations between the two countries. Gopinath Munde dies in road accident in Delhi

New Delhi, June 03 (ANI): Senior BJP leader and Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde died in a road accident in Delhi's Moti Bagh area on Tuesday morning. He was first admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital when he met with the accident and was then shifted to the AIIMS trauma centre where he was declared dead. Munde was en route to Indira Gandhi International airport when the incident occurred. Munde had a victory rally scheduled in Beed and Parali. Munde will be cremated on Wednesday. Jun 3, 2014
