South Korean PM Chung Hong-Won Resigns over Ferry sinking

Seoul, April 27 (ANI): South Korea's Prime Minister Chung Hong-Won tendered his resignation on Sunday over the government response to sinking of a passenger ferry that left more than 300 people dead or missing. The Sewol, a large passenger ferry, capsized more than 300 people- many of them schoolchildren - on board when it was en route to the southern resort island of Jeju on April 16. Divers are still trying to recover their bodies. A sombre Prime Minister Chung Hong-won began his resignation announcement with a mournful prelude, amid criticism of the government's handling of the disaster. Meanwhile, grieving parents stormed the rescue headquarters and blamed the government for the slow pace of the recovery and the frequent changes in information provided by the team. Apr 27, 2014

Journalists attacked by police in Indore over parking row

Indore, April 27 (ANI): At least five journalists were injured after being allegedly attacked by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel and vehicle parking lot employees at GRP Police Station in Indore over parking row. SP, Railways, RC Bhurrah said on Sunday that three GRP personnel, including a head constable have been suspended, while criminal cases are lodged against four cops and 2 parking lot staff. Fire in Supreme Court premises

New Delhi, April 27 (ANI): Fire engulfed Supreme Court premises in Delhi on Sunday with no casualties reported. Fire engines were called upon and the reason for the same is not ascertained yet. A lawyer who was witness to the incident said that there is total unpreparedness in the premises and that the cause of the fire is not known yet. LS Polls: Mufti Mohammad Sayeed accuses NC of using boycott calls for its own benefits

Srinagar, April 27 (ANI): Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday attacked National Conference (NC) that governs Jammu and Kashmir, and said that it was using boycott calls for its own benefits. Addressing a news conference in Srinagar Sayeed said that NC’s presence on political front in the state had become a permanent threat to peace and stability. Many people stayed away from voting on April 24 in the Anantnag constituency of Kashmir, after a string of attacks on village elders. Police said the attacks were the work of militants determined to derail the poll. The constituency was one of six in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress reacts to Yashwant Sinha's Gujarat Model remark

New Delhi/ Patna, April 27 (ANI): Congress leaders on Sunday reacted over BJP leader Yashwant Sinha's remark that Gujarat Model is applicable only in Gujarat. Meem Afzal stated that BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi should be asked to react over this statement. Satyavrat Chaturvedi said that even Congress has been saying this that Gujarat Model will not work in other states and all states need their specific model. Also Rashid Alvi hit out at BJP saying that they do not have any model and there are only rifts in the party. Police in Amritsar arrest smugglers, recover drugs and cash

Amritsar, April 27 (ANI): Police in Punjab achieved a major success in its drive against cross-border smuggling of narcotics. Amritsar branch of State Special Operation Cell, a unit of Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, arrested three smugglers along with possession of drugs. The smugglers were identified as Jagjit Singh, Davinder Singh, Kuldip Singh and Harbinder Singh. Further investigation revealed that the smugglers have been indulging in cross-border smuggling and had recently procured two consignments of heroin from Pakistan, which they had disposed off as per the directions from Pakistani smugglers. It was further revealed that the seized consignment was the third in past one month and the recovered pistol was part of the same. Apr 27, 2014

Justice R M Lodha sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, April 27 (ANI): Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha was on Sunday sworn in as the Chief Justice of India. He was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee. He is the 41st chief justice of India. Chief Justice Lodha succeeds Chief Justice P Sathasivam who demitted office on completion of his term Saturday. Lodha will preside over the Supreme Court for five months as his term will come to an end Sep 27, 2014. Justice Lodha is the senior-most judge after Justice Sathasivam and is also heading a benching monitoring CBI's probe into the sensitive coal blocks allocation scam. Aero show in Coimbatore attracts visitors

Coimbatore, April 27 (ANI): Enthusiasts thronged Coimbatore for ‘Aeroplus 2014’, which exhibited more than 20 varieties of aircrafts, choppers and their manoeuvre. The exhibition is being organised by Nehru College of Aeronautical Science and will continue for three days. Most of the aircrafts that were on display have been brought from Indian Air Force and other foreign countries.
