Chidambaram's Interim Budget 2014 highlights - Part - 1

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram presented the interim budget for the fiscal year 2014-15 on Monday in Lok Sabha. While presenting the budget Chidambaram said that the fiscal deficit for the current financial year will be contained at 4.6% of GDP well below the red line of 4.8 %. The fiscal deficit, which is the gap between expenditure and revenue, was 4.9% of GDP in the previous financial year. He said that the government's objectives included fiscal consolidation, reviving the growth cycle and enhancing manufacturing. Feb 17, 2014

Security forces arrest two Maoists during combing operation in Odisha

Ganjam, Feb 17 (ANI): Security personnel arrested two Maoists during a combing operation in a Maoist camp in Ganjam district of Odisha. A lot of items including arms and ammunition, rations, nine kit bags and several personal belongings were recovered at the camp. Security forces discovered the camp during a combing operation by the police and a district volunteer force in a forested area on the border of Ganjam and Kandhamal districts. Politicos denounce Kejriwal for resignation over Jan Lokpal Bill

Activist-turned-politician Kejriwal resigned as chief minister of Delhi on February 14, after his pet anti graft legislation was rejected by the state assembly, and also proposed for fresh elections for the capital. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, lashed at Kejriwal for hurrying and said he should have patiently awaited an assent on the bill from the lieutenant governor. Chidambaram to present interim budget today

The vote-on-account will authorize the government to release expenditure on different heads till a regular budget is presented.
