Traders participate in _Silk Mark Expo_ in Kerala to boost business

Kochi, Kerala, Aug 25 (ANI): Traders across India participated in a five day _Silk Mark Expo_ organised by Central Silk Board to explore business opportunities, showcasing varieties of silk dress materials and sarees. The exhibition that was flagged off on Wednesday aims to educate consumers about the purity of silk and provide access to genuine silk varieties. The event is to spread awareness among consumers who get confused with duplicate and look-a-like materials available at cheaper price in markets. According to the organisers, it is a real crowd puller as the trade fair has 99 percent pure silk products with authenticity mark as found on gold ornaments which assures full guarantee. Deputy Director, Central Silk Board, K Babu Giridharan said workshops are being conducted on how silk is prepared from its beginning stage of cocoon to yarn. Aug 25, 2014

Craftsmen from Africa get training to make bamboo products in Tripura

Tripura, Aug 24 (ANI): A total of 36 trainees are undergoing two-week long training in bamboo art and skill development at Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) in Tripura. Eleven artisans are from Ethiopia and 25 trainees are local tribals who are getting a chance to enhance their skills through exchange of ideas. The training program is being organized by the Development Commissioner Handicraft under Ministry of Textiles as a part of the African-Indian Forum for capacity building training programme. Tripura has the largest skill base of bamboo artisans producing a variety of products. The trainees learn to make bamboo baskets, furniture and other products. The trainees are quite happy to learn new bamboo crafts and designs under the guidance of master trainers from Tripura. Aug 24, 2014

Aam Aadmi Sena protests against ongoing ceasefire violation by Pak

New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): Activists of a social organisation, Aam Aadmi Sena staged a protest in New Delhi on Sunday demanding stern action against spate of ceasefire violations by Pakistani rangers along the international border Jammu and Kashmir. Activist of Aam Aadmi Sena, Vishal Ghoshla said the people demand answer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not giving a befitting reply. Pakistani troops continued to violate the ceasefire by shelling and firing upon 25 Border Out Posts (BoPs) and 19 villages along the International Border in Jammu sector, in the intervening night of August 23rd and August 24th, prompting the BSF to retaliate. Vintage beauties lure people to car rally in Chennai

Chennai, Aug 24 (ANI): Cars and bikes of various makes and models charmed the crowd at a rally organised by the Madras Heritage Motoring Club in Chennai city on Sunday. The 10th edition of _MyTVS Heritage Car Rally_ saw classic beauties from 1920s to 1960s participating at the event. The organiser of the event, VS Kylas, said close to 140 cars and 50 bikes turned out for the rally. The beauties on wheels roamed around the roads of Chennai after the rally was flagged off from Don Bosco School in the city. Marketing Manager of Mercedes Benz (India), Chitrangada, who was also present at the event, said the experience was one of a kind as one does not get to see the roving steel beauties of yesteryears on a regular basis. Sudarsan Patnaik appeals for release of Irom Sharmila through art

Puri, Aug 24 (ANI): India_s renowned sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik on Sunday (August 24) created a sand sculpture of the fasting activist, Irom Sharmila with a message _Free the Iron Lady from the Iron grill_ at Puri beach of Odisha. Patnaik appealed through his art to release Irom Sharmila. He created a five feet high sand sculpture by showing the face of Sharmila with Iron grills and Pattnaik has used about 4 tonne of sand in it. Human Rights activist, Irom Sharmila, who has been on a hunger strike for the last 14 years, was rearrested by northeastern Manipuri police on Friday. Aug 24, 2014
