AAP protest in Chennai for release of fishermen

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday went on a hunger strike demanding the Central Government to take necessary steps to bring back the five fishermen who are facing death sentences in Sri Lanka. About 75 AAP cadres took part in this hunger strike. They raised slogans demanding the central government to take necessary legal steps to release the fishermen. The Colombo High Court had earlier this month sentenced five Indian fishermen to death on charges of drug smuggling. They had been arrested on a boat in the seas off northern Jaffna's Delft islet. The fishermen claim that they have been falsely implicated in the case. Nov 8, 2014

President Mukherjee inaugurates Jigme Wangchuck Hydro Power Training Institute in Bhutan

Thimpu, Nov 08 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday inaugurated Jigme Wangchuck Hydro Power Training Institute in thimpu city of Bhutan. He said that India's relationship with Bhutan is an "exemplary" one that takes care of each other's concerns and vital interests. Mukherjee also called upon both nations to earnestly take up their role within SAARC for advancement of the region and for global peace. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, along with his Cabinet colleagues, was present during the function. Four more projects have been taken up now as joint ventures between public sector undertakings of India and Bhutan, the foundation stone of the first such project being laid by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited Bhutan in June. Sri Lankan PM offers prayers at Tirupati temple

Tirumala, Nov 08 (ANI): Sri Lankan Prime Minister DM Jayaratne offered prayers at the famed Tirupati temple of Lord Venkateswara in hill town of Tirumala, near pilgrimage city of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is deeply revered by Hindus and is one of the most venerated pilgrimage centres in India. This was Jayaratne’s second visit to the temple. He had earlier offered prayers in 1994. Jayaratne said he was told by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit the temple when in India. He was blessed by temple priests as they chanted religious verses. Nov 8, 2014

Goa CM Manohar Parrikar tenders his resignation

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has tendered his resignation to take up the post of Union defence minister on Sunday. Parrikar faxed his resignation to Goa governor Mridula Sinha. Sinha is out of station and is likely to arrive in the state in the afternoon in time for the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister scheduled at 4:00 PM. The BJP legislative committee is set to meet at noon to decide on the new Goa chief minister and the new leader will be elected at 4:00 in the evening. Parrikar is scheduled to go to Delhi on Saturday evening after the new chief minister takes over the charge. Parrikar will also file his nomination on Monday for Rajya Sabha seat from Lucknow. Power project in Kashmir to resolve problem of electricity supply

Srinagar, Nov 08 (ANI): A micro power project is under construction in Jammu and Kashmir to resolve the problems of electricity supply and generate employment for the locals. A private company is investing into power project in Baramulla district by mobilising water resources of the Kashmir valley, which after completion would generate 8 MW of electricity supply to the adjoining villages. The residents welcomed the project which would resolve problems of power outages.
