Businessmen pin hopes on FIFA world cup to help boost mango exports

Malda, June 01 (ANI): As the countdown for FIFA World Cup begins, Indian traders have been pinning hopes on stability in the export market, which will boost mango business as it has been fluctuating due to the recent EU ban and has left the mango growers clueless over the ensuing demand. Mango exporters are hopeful that prospects of demand from the Latin American country would increase in the near future, as the football world cup will kickstart on June 12. Muslims suffer because of absence of Uniform civil code: Press Council Chief Justice M Katju

New Delhi, June 01 (ANI): Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju came out in support of Uniform civil code and said that the absence of the same lead to suffering of the Muslim community. He said that there is no modernization of their personal law which depletes the conditions of the community even further. Katju also said that due to vote bank politics, Uniform Civil Code has not been made a law till the time. Former President poised to celebrate 84th birth anniversary of heritage train

Pune, June 01 (ANI): Former Indian President Pratibha Patil poised to celebrate 84th birth anniversary of the heritage train Deccan Queen or Deccan Queen Express which was the pride of the British, as it connected two major cities of Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra. To mark the occasion train model made in cake was cut by Patil and was distributed among the attendees. Locally known as "Dakhan ki Rani", it started its first journey as a deluxe train on June 01, 1930. The frames of the coach were manufactured in England but the coach itself was manufactured in a Mumbai's Matunga workshop, which still exists today and caters largely to the maintenance of the local trains. Indian marine exports cross USD 5 billion mark

Kochi, June 01 (ANI): The export of marine products from India reached an all time high of USD 5 billion during the fiscal year 2013-14. The increase in exports saw a sharp rise from the previous fiscal year's figure of USD 3.5 billion. Exports amounted to 983, 756 metric tonnes. The MPEDA, a statutory body under the central government, is a nodal agency for promotion of export of marine products from India. It is present in all the Maritime Provinces and is responsible for development schemes, aquaculture production apart from export promotion. The rise in maritime exports during 2013-14 has been attributed to increase in export of the L Vannamei shrimp, commonly known as the Whiteleg shrimp. Jun 1, 2014

Suspected LeT Commander Abu Kasha killed in JandK encounter

Handwara, June 01 (ANI): Suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba Divisional Commander Abu Kasha was on Sunday gunned down in a fierce encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
