India proud developer of world's second largest telescope

Hyderabad, June 29 (ANI): World's second largest high-altitude telescope for detecting gamma ray emissions is ready to be transported from Hyderabad to Ladakh, where it will become operational by early 2016. Weighing 180 tonnes and mounted on six wheels, the Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) telescope has been developed and manufactured for the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai by the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) in Hyderabad. Addressing the audience at the flagging off event, Secretary of Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman of Atomic Commission, R K Sinha, said it gave great pride for India to own this telescope. Police in Latehar arrest eight Maoists, recovers cache of arms and ammunitions

Manipur's rich cultural heritage showcased on ramp

Manipur, June 29 (ANI): Dressed in traditional Manipuri dress, models sashayed down the ramp in Imphal. The event was organized at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen under the banner of ‘Sagonarakpa Natki Saktam'. Altogether 28 models from Manipur were invited to give the show an ethnic look. The show aimed at highlighting the uniqueness of the region with special focus on traditional tools. During the show, young Manipuri artists enthralled the audience by performing Maibi Jagoi, a traditional Manipuri dance. Farmers in Manipur get training in sericulture to boost silk production

Imphal, June 29 (ANI): To give a boost to quality silk production, a 5-day long Beneficiary Empowerment Training Programme was recently organized by the Research Extension Centre of Central Silk Board at Khuman Lampak in Imphal. The participants were given theoretical training followed by field exposure visits to Changangei and Mantripukhr. Under the programme, eight batches, comprising of 20 participants each will be given training in Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts this year. The organizers aim to enhance the production from 1.5 metric tons to 14 metric tons in silk producing Ukhrul and Churachandpur district of Manipur.
