Onion prices rise in Maharashtra

Nagpur/ Mumbai / New Delhi/ Chandigarh, June 17 (ANI): Onion prices were increased across Maharashtra on Tuesday in wake of labourers' strike over a wage hike demand in the biggest wholesale market in Nashik city. The states of Maharashtra and Karnataka account for 45 per cent of onion produce in the country and if supplied from these two key states are hit, onion prices tend to spiral. The central government has asked the state government to sort out the issue. However, the northern Indian onion market remained untouched due to the timely arrival of crops from the neighbouring Rajasthan. Jun 17, 2014

BJP protest against JandK CM Omar Abdullah

Jammu, June 17 (ANI): BJP workers on Tuesday staged a protest against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his remark on their previous protest in the state. Earlier, BJP protested against Abdullah over power crisis in the state when he had gone to inaugurate a scheme for power development. Later, in an angry rhetoric over BJP's protests, Abdullah came forward and attacked BJP calling the party as 'deceitful' and staging protests only for the cameras. Nine killed as bus falls into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh

Sirmour, June 17 (ANI): At least nine people were killed and 40 injured when a tourist bus fell into a deep gorge in hilly state of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The bus coming from Uttar Pradesh with 55 passengers, met with the accident in Sirmour district. District officials immediately rushed to the scene with rescue and medical teams. Iraq situation being monitored closely by the Foreign Minister herself: MEA

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Tuesday highlighted the situation of Iraq crisis as related to some Indian nationalists there. Akbaruddin said that the situation is being closely monitored by Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj herself. UP Governor BL Joshi resigns

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Amid reports that NDA government wants to replace governors appointed by its predecessor, Uttar Pradesh governor BL Joshi tendered his resignation on Tuesday. He has sent his resignation papers to the Home Ministry. Joshi's tenure was to end next month. His resignation could be the start of more such exits of the state governors after the new BJP government took over last month. Home Ministry sources say other UPA-appointed governors who still have two years or more to complete their term are likely to come under pressure as the government has asked President Pranab Mukherjee to ask for their resignations soon. Advani meets Yashwant Sinha at Hazaribagh jail

Hazaribagh, June 17 (ANI): Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Tuesday met former union minister Yashwant Sinha, who is in judicial custody in Jharkhand. On Monday Sinha's judicial custody was extended till June 28. He was arrested on June 02 for leading a demonstration at the Electricity Board office in Hazaribagh town of Jharkhand and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody next day after he refused to furnish the bail bond. A local court on Monday extended the judicial remand of the senior Jharkhand BJP leader till June 28 as he did not move for bail in connection with the alleged assault of a senior government official earlier this month.
