SC acquits all 11 accused in the 1993 Surat bomb blasts case

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): All 11 convicted in the 1993 Surat bomb blast case have been acquitted by the Supreme Court on Friday. Petitioner lawyer said that a two-judge bench of Justice TS Thakur and Justice C Nagappam not only acquitted all the 11 accused but also reversed a TADA court verdict that had sentenced them to jail from 10 to 20 years. The two blasts had taken place in January 1993 in Varachha area and on the platform number one of Surat railway station during the communal riots that broke out after the demolition of Babri Masjid. Politicos and Social Activists condemn Brutal gang-rape of woman in UP

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Political leaders and social activists on Friday condemned the gang rape of a woman in Balsinkheda village across the Mohanlalganj-Memaura road in UP. Leaders demanded strict action against the accused and blamed the state government for such a situation for women. The local police station was informed around 6:00 am, but since they were on duty in the wake of former US president Bill Clinton_s visit to a village 10km away, it took two hours for the first policeman to arrive at the scene of crime where hundreds of villagers had gathered. Politicos condemn shooting down of Malaysian Airlines Plane, call for through probe

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Political leaders across party lines condemned the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines Plane MH17 over Eastern Ukraine in which all 298 people on board were killed. The leaders called for a thorough probe into the incident and demanded strict action by the International Court of Justice. Russia and Ukraine however, have both denied involvement. The Malaysian plane had fallen from a height of 10,600 metres and all passengers on board, including the crew died in the tragedy. Body of Indian worker arrives from Sharjah

Amritsar, July 18 (ANI): Body of an Indian worker, Shemshar Singh, who died while returning home from war-torn Iraq, has arrived in Punjab. Shemshar, 24, who belonged to Gurdaspur district of the state, was returning back from Iraq with 11 other colleagues on June 22, when he fell seriously ill and was admitted to Sharjah hospital in Dubai. Succha Singh, father of Shemshar, slammed the government for not taking adequate steps for early return of his son. The news came as a shock to the family members of Shemshar, who went to Iraq four months back, to earn money as they belong from a poor background. Shemshar___s father also urged the government to send teams to bring rest of the stranded workers back. About 10,000 Indians work in Iraq, mostly in areas unaffected by the fighting, but scores of them have returned to India since ISIL began its offensive. The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and other Sunni Muslim militant groups have seized many towns and cities across Syria and Iraq. Jul 18, 2014
