Rashtrapati Bhavan plays key role in India_s food diplomacy

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): The majestic and architectural masterpiece - Rashtrapati Bhavan being the residence of the President of India hosts many dignitaries from across the world. Be it the U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping or Japanese Emperor Akihito, the visitors include the high and the mighty. And, the men who serve authentic Indian cuisine to the President_s guests are chefs, many of whom have been working here for generations. Though a majority of them have not graduated from culinary institutes, they have learnt to prepare food from their ancestors and old colleagues. 58-year-old Minhaj Ali is a third generation chef, whose grandfather and father have also served in the Presidential kitchen. The man who plans and executes the menus for state banquets, high teas and luncheons at the President_s House is executive chef Machindra Kasture. He joined Rashtrapati Bhavan as executive chef in 2007 on deputation from the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Kasture heads a team of 26 chefs, including bakers and traditional sweet makers. While planning the menu for visiting dignitaries, they not only keep in mind their likes and dislikes, but also if any of the guests are allergic to certain foods. Dec 4, 2014

Railways cancel 16 trains due to fog in Uttar Pradesh

Gorakhpur, Dec 04 (ANI): The railway authorities cancelled at least 16 trains as dense fog descends upon Uttar Pradesh. Heavy fog and haze covered Gorakhpur city of Uttar Pradesh, leading to delay and cancellation of trains passing through the area. Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of northeastern Railways, Alok Kumar Singh, said on Thursday (December 04) that drivers are given precautionary orders not to exceed the speed of trains to avoid any mishap amid low visibility. Besides, certain trains have been rescheduled and their destinations and routes changed to avoid congestion, Singh said. Passengers are facing undue inconvenience. Dec 4, 2014

Five children killed, more than 20 injured as school van collapses with train in UP

Mau, Dec 04 (ANI): Five children were killed and more than 20 are reported to be injured after a school van collapsed with a passenger train in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place at an unmanned railway crossing on Thursday morning. The injured children were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and are being treated. Acting on a tip off, police arrest a Maoist in Jharkhand

Palamu, Dec 04 (ANI): Police of Palamu district in Jharkhand arrested a hardcore Maoist and recovered a country made pistol, four cartridges, a motorcycle and a mobile phone from him. The arrested Maoist has been identified as Ajay Prasad alias Roshan, the Zonal Commander of Maoist outfit Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC). Superintendent of Police of Palamu, Mayur Patel, said that acting on a tip off, the district police dispatched a team acted to nab Prasad. Prasad is wanted in 10 cases of ransom, kidnapping and murder across Latehar, Garhwa and Palamu districts of Jharkhand. Patel added that Prasad was also involved in extortion activities of TPC-2. Pak showcases arms and ammunition at international defence exhibition

Karachi, Dec 04 (ANI): Pakistani military showcased domestically produced arms and defence equipment at the eighth International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS-2014), a four-day exhibition of arms and combat equipment. The exhibition was opened by Pakistani Prime Minster, Nawaz Sharif, on Monday in the port city of Karachi. The organisers say, nearly 80 foreign delegations, including 24 high level ones, headed either by their respective defence ministers, secretaries or service chiefs, are also attending the exhibition and seminar under the theme _Weapons for Peace._Russia, UAE, Australia and Portugal are taking part in the exhibition for the first time.
