Narayan Rane resigns from Maharashtra Cabinet

Mumbai, July 21 (ANI): Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane resigned from the state cabinet on Monday. He submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Rane, a chief ministerial aspirant, has been reportedly upset with the party for not giving him the top post. He had announced last week that he will resign from his ministerial post, but will continue to be a member of the Congress Party. Rane had joined the Congress after he quit the Shiv Sena in 2005. Chowdhary Lal Singh resigns from Congress alleging 'back stabbing'

Kathua, July 21 (ANI): Former Lok Sabha member from Udhampur and senior Congress leader Chowdhary Lal Singh resigned from the party alleging 'back stabbing' from the party leadership. Singh announced his resignation at a Congress workers' meeting in Kathua town of Jammu. He said that the party had promised him ticket from Jammu, whereas it fielded Ghulam Nabi Azad from the seat. Lucknow Imam upbraids Praveen Togadia for attempting to disturb communal harmony

Lucknow, July 21 (ANI): Lucknow Muslim Cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali on Monday condemned VHP leader Praveen Togadia for his controversial statement on Muslims forgetting 2002 Gujarat riots. Mahali accused Togadia of disturbing communal harmony during the month of Ramzaan. He added that by recalling the Gujarat and Muzaffarnagar riots, Togadia has tried to rake up the old wounds of the victims. Encephalitis threat looms over Assam

Guwahati, July 21 (ANI): Encephalitis syndrome threat looms large over in Assam, while experts have sounded alert due to significant rise in number of cases reported that have been tested positive. The deadly disease is gradually taking a toll in Guwahati city since the month of June and has resulted in death of four people so far. The deceased includes two adults and two children who were undergoing treatment in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Principal of Guwahati Medical College Hospital, Ramen Talukdar said that the patients suffering from the Japanese Encephalitis have been kept under strict observation in the hospital. Patients admitted in the hospital belong to the surrounding districts like Nalbari, Darrang and Goalpara. Around 22 districts of Assam are Encephalitis affected. Jul 21, 2014

Hindus mark second Shravan Monday with special prayers and offerings

Varanasi, July 21 (ANI): Carrying assortment of religious offerings, devout Hindus thronged lord Shiva temples in north India to offer special prayers, as they marked the auspicious second Monday of month long 'Shravan' festival. The devotees on Monday gathered in large numbers to offer milk, curd, ghee, honey and holy water to Lord Shiva in wee hours of morning. Long queues of people waiting with assortment of religious offerings like joss sticks, red vermilion and flowers were seen outside the temples. The saffron-clad devotees of Lord Shiva known as Kanwaria take their foot journey to the Hindu pilgrimage places of Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand to fetch holy waters of Ganges River. Finance Minister to finalise tax collection roadmap with excise officials

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday met the top brass of the Income Tax department and Central Board of Direct Taxes and discussed all issues related to tax collection. Jaitley inaugurated the two-day annual conference of principal chief commissioners, principal director generals, chief commissioners and director generals of income tax in New Delhi. This is the 30th Annual Conference of heads of the Income Tax Department. The major focus during the two-day conference would be on the accountability of assessing officers, non-filers monitoring system, data warehousing and business intelligence, role of directorate of I and CI in changing scenario, search, seizure and surveys -study of effectiveness among others. ABVP protests outside Bangalore School over 6-year old girl___s rape

Bangalore, July 21 (ANI): BJP___s youth wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), staged a protest outside the Vibgyor School in Bangalore where a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the school staff. The protesters broke the barricades and a scuffle between the protesters and police officials ensued. Meanwhile, Police also baton charged the protestors. On Sunday, police arrested a skating instructor in the case and will present the accused before the court.
