Girls in Jorhat take up martial arts for self defence

Jorhat, June 26 (ANI): 13-year-old Prity Sarkar has been learning karate since January this year. She aims to become a police officer. Her parents are supportive of her martial arts training as it not only helps Prity remain physically fit but is also important for self-defense. With an increase in various crimes against women, a large number of women in the region are taking interest in learning martial arts. Ananiya Neog, a black belt holder in Karate works as an instructor in Jorhat. She has witnessed a rise in the number of students approaching her for training. Jun 26, 2014

Bezbaruah committee for northeast people holds meetings at major cities across the country

Bangalore/ Kolkata/ Chennai, June 26 (ANI): Members of the Bezbaruah Committee recently visited Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai and hold meetings with representatives of the north-east community in a process to look at their concerns. Headed by M P Bezbaruah, a retired IAS officer, the committee was constituted by the Centre to examine various concerns of the people from Northeast living in different parts of the country. The committee, mandated to suggest suitable remedial measures, is in the final process of talking to all the stakeholders to take their view. Madhuri Dixit becomes brand ambassador of MP health scheme

Bhopal, June 26 (ANI): The health department of central Indian Madhya Pradesh and the state unit of UNICEF appointed Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit as brand ambassador of a state scheme promoting mother and child welfare. Dixit along with state chief, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and health minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra launched the second phase of the campaign on Thursday in Bhopal city. Dixit has been selected as the brand ambassador for Madhya Pradesh government's 'Mamta Abhiyan' (Maternal and Child Health Campaign). Dixit emphasised on the steps being taken by the state government to ensure the safety and health of mother and child. Indian PM accepted invite to visit Bangladesh: MEA

Dhaka, June 26 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday highlighted the relations between Bangladesh and India post Indian Foreign Minister's visit to the neighbouring country. MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that Bangladesh has assured that it will not allow its territory to be used against India. He also said that the Indian Prime Minister has accepted the invitation extended by the Bangladesh PM to visit Bangladesh.
