UGC rejects DU's proposal, asks it to begin admissions today

New Delhi, June 27 (ANI): The UGC on Friday rejected the Delhi University's proposal to amend the four-year undergraduate programme. It has directed the varsity to revert to its 3-year course and start the admissions on Friday itself. The UGC's directive comes a day after the DU sent an alternative proposal to restore the FYUP with a few amendments in it, as a way to end the deadlock. Chandrababu Naidu met NDA ministers over AP developmental issues

New Delhi, June 27 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, met cabinet ministers to discuss state-related issues. Earlier, Naidu also met Power Minister Piyush Goyal over assistance for uninterrupted power supply at reasonable rates. Goyal said that the central government wanted to see Andhra Pradesh as a state model in terms of power and ensured all round development of the state. A politician from Andhra Pradesh, Yalamanchili Satyanarayana Chowdary, said matters pertaining to petro-corridor were discussed. Naidu discussed issues like relaxing the fiscal responsibility and Budget Management Act, providing relief from repayment of loans, financial assistance for building the new capital city, key infrastructure projects and national institutions with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Political leaders draw reaction over approval of 5 per cent reservation for Muclims in Maharashtra

Mumbai/Nagpur/New Delhi, June 27 (ANI): Political leaders reacted after Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan announced five per cent reservation for Muslim community in the state.Leaders said Maharashtra government's move ahead of assembly elections was to gain political mileage.Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla said the alliance of NCP and Congress party was playing vote bank politics. Meanwhile, RSS called the move unconstitutional. India grants financial aid to Bangladesh for implementation of development projects

Dhaka, June 27 (ANI): India announced grant of nearly $10 million to Bangladesh for implementation of various small development projects and also assured it to address trade imbalance issue. The grant was announced by Foreign Minster Sushma Swaraj, who is on a visit to Bangladesh to bolster bilateral ties and also discuss important matters like Teesta water sharing and Land Boundary Agreement and the issue of illegal immigration. Swaraj also held talks with her Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, to bolster strategic partnership. Lakshmikant Sharma and others sent to judicial custody over Vyapam scam

Bhopal, June 27 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Former minister was sent to jail over alleged involvement in Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, in which many government employees are under scanner for getting selected through unfair means. Special Task Force (STF) constituted for an investigation into MPPEB scam, or Vyapam scam, detained Laxmikant Sharma, former state technical education minister, for interrogation. STF inspector, Indresh Tripathi, said total 15 people have been sent to judicial custody. India's Congress party had accused leaders of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of being involved in the scam. Congress party spokesperson, KK Mishra, had demanded a CBI probe in the nexus among middlemen, politicians, bureaucrats and education mafia. Jun 27, 2014

At least 12 killed in blast at GAIL pipeline in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh, June 27 (ANI): At least 12 people were killed and 18 others injured after an explosion at a gas pipeline at the site of the state-owned Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in Andhra Pradesh. The blast took place at 5:30 AM due to a gas leak in a pipeline near a refinery at Nagaram, around 560 km from Hyderabad. A massive fire broke out after the blast. Eight fire engines were rushed to the spot and the fire has been brought under control, officials said. The gas supply line has been cut off. Meanwhile, Prime Minister expressed condolences and tweeted, "My thoughts with the families of those who lost their lives in the GAIL Pipeline fire in AP. Prayers with the injured." He also said, "I have spoken to the Petroleum Minister, Cabinet Secretary and GAIL Chairman and asked them to ensure immediate relief at the accident site."According to official sources, those who suffered burns are being shifted to Amalapuram and Kakinada hospitals. Indian youths take FIFA fever to hair-raising levels

Jalandhar, June 27 (ANI): Hair salons did brisk business in Punjab with youngsters rushing to ape the hair styles of their favourite football players, as FIFA fever gripped the entire country. Talking to a media person hairstylist, Ijaz Hassan Salmani, said that young boys throng salons with pictures of football players on their phones and laptops. He added that his salon is doing business even during what is considered an off season, because of the FIFA madness taking hold of youngsters in the city. A customer, Bilal Salmani, said that he has been mimicking the Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo's hairstyle ever since he started following football as a child.
