Sushma Swaraj arrives in Afghanistan to bolster ties

Kabul, Sep 10 (ANI): Union Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Afghanistan, on Wednesday in a bid to bolster ties between the two countries and review key projects that have been implemented in the region by India. Swaraj held talks with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on crucial bilateral and regional issues, as well as on defence and security assistance from India. Swaraj also met her Afghanistani counterpart Zarar Ahmad Osmani. She is also expected to hold meeting with presidential candidates in Kabul and inaugurate the new Indian embassy. With her visit to Afghanistan, Swaraj has now visited four of the eight countries in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) since taking over the portfolio. Sep 10, 2014

Rescue operations in JandK may bridge gap between army and people: SP

New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal, on Wednesday said that rescue operations in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir may bridge the gap between army and people. Rising death toll in Kashmir and worst floods in 60 years submerged villages and destroyed crops as the number of dead hit 420 and thousands remained trapped on rooftops. The Indian air force, army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are carrying out extensive rescue operations in the state. Soldiers rescued families using boats or airlifted them from rooftops by helicopter after the river Jhelum burst its banks in Srinagar, but many more remained stranded. Bull jumps into swimming pool; surprises children practicing for competition

Mandsaur, Sep 10 (ANI): Children practicing for the annual state level swimming competition in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh received a surprise as a bull suddenly jumped into the pool to join the fun and frolic. Interestingly, instead of being scared, the children were overjoyed to see the bull sharing the pool and swimming with them. According to swimming coach, Vijeta Singh, the children helped the authorities in pulling the bull out of the pool. It took nearly an hour of high drama after the reluctant animal was finally pulled out of the pool, leaving authorities speculating at the source from where the animal entered the premises of the competition. Incessant rains trigger flood like situation in Gujarat

People residing on the banks of River Dhadhar have been asked to exercise caution as heavy rains were forecast in the next 72 hours. Nearly, 1,000 people have been evacuated as a preventive measure following the huge inflow in river Vishwamitri. High alert has been sounded in the districts of Surat, Bharuch and Narmada.
