Muslims leading miserable lives in India: Azam Khan

Lucknow, Aug 27 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, stirred another controversy on Wednesday by saying Muslims in India are living in fear. Khan was addressing a gathering of Hajj pilgrims in Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav flagged off the first batch of Hajj pilgrims from the state. Wishing the pilgrims a safe journey, Khan expressed concern over their well-being, saying he hopes and prays no one is harmed by 'love jihad'. Khan also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he does not want peace and harmony in the country. Meanwhile, Khan also blamed the central government for the riots in northern cities of Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar. Khan's statement came on the anniversary of the Muzaffarnagar riots where more than 62 people were killed and thousands displaced after killing of two brothers in Kaval village on August 27, 2013. Mumbai, Aug 27 (ANI): Former Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan received farewell by state cabinet staffs and ministers at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai on Wednesday. Sankaranarayanan also received guard of honour during the event. Present at the occasion were ministers and state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan who bid farewell to the former governor. Sankaranarayanan resigned soon after he was transferred to Mizoram by the NDA government for his remaining tenure, which had to end in 2017. SC dismisses petition on appointment of tainted ministers, says its call of framers of Constitution

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed petition seeking the removal of Cabinet ministers with criminal background. The SC said that it is the call of the ‘framers of Constitution’ or the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers of the state to see who they are appointing. The petition was heard by a bench comprising of the Chief Justice of India and five other judges. The Supreme Court has however clarified its stand on ministers with criminal background saying that, "Those in conflict with the law and involved in offences of moral turpitude and corruption should not be allowed to discharge duty as ministers".
