Mixed reactions flow as Sonia Gandhi attacks Modi govt's '100 days' over inflation

New Delhi, Sep 02 (ANI): Mixed political reactions flowed on Tuesday as Congress President Sonia Gandhi attacked Narendra Modi government's '100 days' over inflation in necessary commodities. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that Gandhi is right and the government should try to curb inflation. NCP leader Tariq Anwar also said that the agenda which BJP raised in the election campaigns should be fulfilled. SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that the Samajwadi Party had given duration of 6 months to the government, but it is not giving any promising results in the first half. Pak crisis: PM Nawaz Sharif to address joint session of Parliament today

Islamabad, Sept 2 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is due to address joint session of Parliament on Tuesday in which the ongoing political crisis and the violent protests will be discussed. Pakistan is preparing to launch a selective crackdown against anti-government protesters trying to bring down the government of Nawaz Sharif, the defence minister said, warning demonstrators against storming government buildings. Dashing chances of a peace deal between the government and protest leaders Imran Khan and Tahir ul-Qadri, anti-government protesters stormed the state television building in the heart of the heavily guarded capital earlier on Monday. RSS worker killed in Kerala's Kannur, state wide bandh cripples normal life

Nagpur/Kochi, Sept 02 (ANI): A local functionary of the RSS was hacked to death and another one suffered serious injuries in an attack allegedly by CP I (M) workers, near Kathirur in Kerala. The BJP and the RSS have called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district on Tuesday in protest against the murder. Meanwhile, the day-long hartal disrupted normal life across the state. PM Narendra Modi plays Taiko drums at TCS event in Tokyo

Tokyo, Sep 02 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wowed a set of suited businessmen by playing traditional Taiko drums with great verve on his fourth day of Japan visit. Modi's performance came a day after signing a clutch of deals with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, at the launch of Tata Consultancy Services's Technology and Cultural Academy, a programme to send young Japanese employees to India for training in technical and cultural skills. After TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran finished his opening remarks, Modi played the drums after the professional drummers had finished. The audience burst into applause when he had finished. Fire breaks out at Chatterjee International building in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sep 02 (ANI): Fire broke out on the 15th floor of the landmark Chatterjee International building near Park Street in Kolkata on Tuesday morning. Four fire tenders were rushed to control the situation. Since the fire broke out before the office hours, the police said the possibility of any person being trapped in the building, which houses many private and government offices, is less. The area has been cordoned off to conduct the firefighting operations in the busy area. The cause of fire or extent of damage is yet to be ascertained, the police said. Sep 2, 2014
