BSE closes points 54.01 down on September 4

New Delhi, Sep 04 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 54.01 points down to stand at 27,085.93. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 18.65 points down to stand at 8,095.95. UPL and JandKBANK were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 7.47% and 6.53% along with TATA GLOBAL and CESC with an increase of 5.77% and 5.62% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include JAIPRAKASH ASSOCIATES LTD. and JPINFRATEC with a decrease of 17.38% and 11.20% along with DLF and UNITECH with a decrease of 8.25% and 6.25% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 18.80 points at 17,688.88 while the banking sector is down 76.62 points at 18,353.75 and the reality sector is down 78.60 points at 1,747.43. PCB to probe Ahmed Shehzad's religious remark to Tillakaratne Dilshan

Landslide block national highway in Kashmir

Udhampur, Sep 04 (ANI): Landslide, triggered by heavy rains, in Jammu and Kashmir blocked national highway, disconnecting people from other districts. The national highway, which was reopened on Wednesday, was closed again due to landslide on the highway in Udhampur district. Jammu Srinagar National highway is the only link road between Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at various points. Meanwhile, drivers said there was no arrangement even of water for stranded people. Teaching is way of life and a teacher never retires: Narendra Modi

New Delhi, Sep 04 (ANI): Stressing on the importance of teachers in a society on the eve of Teachers' Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called teaching a way of life. Modi was speaking on Thursday while interacting with 350 national awardee teachers who will be felicitated by President Pranab Mukherjee on Teachers' Day. Teachers' Day is celebrated on September 05 every year, as it is the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a teacher and an academic philosopher. During the interaction, Modi said a teacher never retires and always continues to inspire the new generation. Modi also said that for a society to progress, teachers must always be two steps ahead of time. He said the teachers need to understand changes happening across the world, and prepare the new generation accordingly by arousing curiosity in them. Vijay Mallya says will pursue all legal remedies as UBI declares him 'willful defaulter'

Bangalore, Sep 04 (ANI): Business Tycoon Vijay Mallya on Thursday said that he will pursue all legal remedies available to him even as state-run United Bank of India's (UBI) declares him 'willful defaulter'. This could be a blow to the former liquor baron who has been fending off banks from recovering money they once lent to his now defunct Kingfisher Airlines. A two judge bench of the top court on Tuesday summarily waived off Kingfisher's objections that its chairman Mallya was declared a "willful defaulter" by the United Bank of India's Grievance Redressal Committee without his lawyer being heard during the proceedings. Mallya also slammed state's decision to ban beverage/ alcohol and said that there is no reason to exclude alcohol industry from Goods and Services Tax.
