Tribal community hold fashion show in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Nov 10 (ANI): The tribal community of Maoist affected Jharkhand came alive with a fashion show during their annual Sohrai festival. Tribals celebrated the annual festival with much fanfare in a village near Jamshedpur city which included a fashion show attracting most of the tribal youths. Sonamoni Tudu, crowned Miss Adivasi (Tribal) said that the fashion show gave much boost to the confidence of their women and encouraged them to prove their mettle. The Sohrai festival, a popular tribal festival of Jharkhand, is associated with cattle and coincides with Diwali. Cattle and other livestock are washed and worshipped and bullfights are staged in various parts of the state for peoples' entertainment. Meanwhile, Sadanand Murmu who bagged the title of Mr Adivasi (Tribal) expressed joy over winning the trophy in the event. Nov 10, 2014

New Delhi, Nov 10 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inducted four cabinet ministers, three Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 14 Ministers of State in his first cabinet expansion on Sunday and the portfolios were decided later. Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is the new Defence Minister and Suresh Prabhu will now head the Railway Ministry, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government carried out the first cabinet expansion on Sunday. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who earlier held the Defence portfolio as an additional charge has now been given the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's additional charge. JP Nadda, who also took oath as a Cabinet minister on Sunday, gets the portfolio of Health and Family Welfare, which was earlier held by Dr Harsh Vardhan. Harsh Vardhan has been shifted to the Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Ministry which has been stripped off from Jitendra Singh, who has got Independent charge of Development of North Eastern Region. Puttaparthi, Nov 10 (ANI): Police arrested three accused for allegedly killing an Australian woman on the outskirts of pilgrim town Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh, said a senior officer. Superintendent of Police, Sriniwas Lu said Toni Anne Ludgate was murdered by the watchman of an apartment where she was staying. Ludgate was murdered by the security guard of her apartment complex with the help of two accomplices on August 28 as the guard was unable to return the rupees 20,000 he owed her. Earlier, police exhumed body of Ludgate, who went missing over two months ago. Nov 10, 2014

India postpones day tourism at Wagah border in view of blast on Pakistani side

Amritsar, Nov 10 (ANI): India's Border Security Force postponed the Day Tourism at Wagah border in Punjab which was scheduled to kick off from November 10, after a suicide bomb attack killed scores of people on the Pakistani side last Sunday. At least 60 people were killed and 110 wounded when the explosion ripped through a car park about 500 metres (yards) from Pakistan's border gate just as hundreds of people left the daily performance. The plan for Day tourism was for tourists who reach early at the Wagah border and the security forces were to give them a tour of the area since the main ceremony is held in the evening. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), MF Farooqui said that the new activity would need elaborate security for the crowd that was expected to turn up for the day tourism. Karachi/ Islamabad, Nov 10 (ANI): Pakistani Christians recently held protests and prayers for a Christian couple who were beaten to death and their bodies burned for allegedly desecrating a copy of the Koran earlier this week. About two hundred people from the Christian community took to streets of the southern city of Karachi holding banners, placards and holy crosses. In the capital Islamabad, about hundred men and women gathered to express solidarity with the couple. They held placards and sang dirges. Smaller protests were held in other cities and prayers were offered in churches. Blasphemy charges, even when they go to court, are punished by death in Muslim-majority Pakistan. Visakhapatnam, Nov 10 (ANI): India's Navy Chief Admiral Robin Dhowan met the family of the sailor James Jacob, who was killed in the recent ship accident off the Visakhapatnam coast and assured all possible help to the bereaved. A torpedo recovery vessel sank off India's coastal city of Visakhapatnam killing at least one person. Dhowan promised to extend all help to the family of 26-year-old sailor, James Jacob. Visakhapatnam, Nov 10 (ANI): Fishermen in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh remain a worried lot concerning their livelihood as repeated warnings of rough weather by the meteorological department has rendered them unable to venture into the sea for over a month now. Sources from the meteorological department warn that a fresh low pressure is likely to form near the Andaman Sea between November 9 and 11 which may intensify into a cyclonic storm or severe cyclonic storm. The fishermen complain of not having received any kind of help by the state government. Earlier, cyclone Hudhud that smashed the coastline of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and killed at least 25 people, left the panicked survivors struggling for basic necessities like food and water.
